A side note from UC Davis practice on Thursday and something that didn't make it into the regular edition:
After suffering multiple concussions, linebacker David Heckman (Sutter High) decided to forgo his final year of eligibility and not play football in 2008. He was on track to graduate at the end of last year, even though he did have to up his load just a bit in his final quarter.
Heckman has now graduated and has been selected to go into the Navy Seals. He is training for that, especially in the water because of the heavy swimming requirements. UCD head coach Bob Biggs says he has totally changed his body from a 235-pound linebacker to a sleeker 200 pounds.
“He just decided after some concussions that it didn’t make sense for him to continue playing football,” Biggs said. “I’m happy for him, joining the Navy Seals.”
